Interview with Ali Raza Jaffrey Great Music Producer, Composer and Pianist

My name  is  Ali Raza Jaffrey I am from a musical family of Pakistan 3rd generation into music and specially piano, guitars and singing compositions and arrangements. 


My grandfather Master Mazoor Hussain the B badge pianist for Pakistan film industry mostly worked with Master Inayat Hussain, talking about my grandfahter we have another legend of preparation era Master Bassay Khan he was the uncle of my grandfather and used to play pedal harmonium my grandmothers father used to accompany Master Barkat Ali khan on Sarangi brother of Ustad Barey Ghulam Ali Khan. 

Barkat Ali Khan then my grandmother played in the laps of Barey Ghulam Ali Khan and then comes my father his name is Azhar Hussain the one of the finest pianist of India, Pakistan and Music Director arranger right now in USA.

There is my uncle of mine who lives in  Canada and   has studio and music company out there.

We all are from famous and prestigious college of Pakistan Government college university Lahore me my dad uncle my younger brother all graduated from that college. 

He is my uncle from Toronto... Jagjit Singh famous ghazal singer from India  and my uncle is a great keyboardist.

I got admission to govt college on music seat and kinship after trials in between 250 candidates. We all from Govt college are called Ravians and we are now old Ravians

My dads real brother Nadeem Ali got college role of honour in music from Govt college and is the batch mate of Shafqat Amanat Ali and Rustam Fateh Ali Khan.

My batch mates were Ali Zafar Sarmad Khosaat  famous drama director now and Amanat Ali son of great comedian Amman Ullah and Ali Rana son of Masood Rana the Pakistani Rafi at time of admission to govt college after trials the principal there interviewed us and asked questions about ragsand my grand dad was sitting beside me it was year 1995 then after doing my FSC  general sciences means stats economics and library sciences plus music initial training i came to Karachi to my dad My dad left Lahore and film industry in 1979 (The year i was born) and came to Karachi with my dad.

After death of my grand dad and departure of my uncle to Canada then hard core period started for practice of piano under my dads supervision and hard rules for more then 5 years i played piano for almost 8 hours in a day time and 6 hours harmonium in nights scales ragas piano harmonium.

I use to see my face in piano wood polish that how much i became familiar with the piano learned how to tune and repair the wires in it then he bought me my 1st keyboard after many years of requesting talking about my dad and the keyboard was Ensoniq TS 10. It was a good sequencer but with less tone variety so after ts 10 he bought me Korg Triton rack mount module and i started working here and there small recordings songs different studios. It was 2002 then did my 1st job in an animation house as a music and audio head it name was Post Amazers. There I did many commercials TV and jingles cartoon series there voice overs music and sound effects mean while i always preferred to have my own home studio which i have and i running  my  home studio for almost 10 years. Then left job for another animation house and after that joined dawn news TV as a sound designer. For channel the only sound designer did commander Safe Guard cartoon series of Pakistan music and it went global like James Bond music or else at Post Amazers then shifted my studio to market place out of home studio.

My younger brothers are also music producer's next younger to me had studio in London for many years but now he is back to Pakistan and having his studio in the same street i have at Zamzama Karachi. My  youngest brother like Justin Berber type singer and dancer and music producer

he is next younger to me his name is Qasim

Interwiew with Syed Hassan Askari Singer, Composer, Lyricist

Well my name is Hassan Askari born in 1988 at Lahore under the star of Libra. I am soft and caring person, I see the world in my own way, since the childhood I wanted to live a dream of being an artist. I found myself at the age of 18 what I am and then I compose my first track (IS SAFAR MEIN) on my life. I am still a day dreamer and day by day I am achieving my dream. 

You have great professions as singer, composer, lyricist … how you can do this all?

Well I learned all by my own self I never thought I would ever compose or write anything but one day it came with an inspiration, Inspiration like I cannot describe. I never search for compositions or lyrics it came from nowhere but I know is they are coming from my heart.

What and who did really inspire you to get into field music? ?

Well who really inspires me is Ustad Nusrat Fatah Ali khan, Ustad Nusrat Fatah Ali Khan still inspires me whenever I am down, whenever I am on the run. 

What problems did you face to achieve your career?

Well there are lots of difficulties, like support from people, spreading my work throughout the world and get myself recognize as an artist.

What are results of your achievements?

Well I would like to say thanks to my ALLAH for what I’ve achieve today and the results are getting good day by day by the Grace of ALLAH.

How do you see the work nowadays in your field Easy or difficult ?

Nor it’s easy nor it’s difficult.

What are your plans for the future in your field ?

Well I am working on my first album (TALAASH) INSHALLAH it will be out soon along with lots of music videos.

Interwiew with Tausif Ali Khan the great Semi Classical Singer

Well, my name is Tausif Ali Khan i am a semi classical singer and belongs to Gwalior Gharana. The Gwalior gharana is the same gharana. Im from the 11th generation in that family. 

You have a great profession singing, how you started it?

From the time immemorial. I basically belong to a school of music known as Gwalior Gharana and this school of music remained open 24/7. I used to listen to my maternal grandfather Ustad Wazir Ali khan, my uncle Waheed Ali khan, my illustrious uncles Ustad Hameed Ali khan and Ustad Fateh Ali khan and their pupils. It was the time when I even couldn't speak properly but I used to sit with them and used to listen to their riyaz. I used to try to follow them in that riyaz (practice). And you will be surprised to know that the word which I learnt after learning the common words like mama and baba was malkaunse, I used to say that I will sing malkaunse (a raga). From this my love for music can be ascertained. 

What and who did really inspire you to get into field  music?

My first influence was my maternal grandfather, Ustad manzoor Ali khan, I used to listen to his recordings whole day out and used to copy his vocals which still is in my practice but is a herculean task as well. After that Ustad Wazir Ali khan,my younger maternal grandfather and my uncles namely, Waheed Ali khan. Ustad Hameed Ali khan and Ustad Fateh Ali khan kept on jogging my soul for good music.

What problems did you face to achieve your career?

Well many problems in its a long story so leave that :)

Who have you worked with?  

I am working on my debut album with some very talented musicians and producers like Adnan Daud khan(saraab) and DJ Yawar

What are results of your achievements?

Achievements  depends on your work how you  take it if you are hard worker then its easy if not then its hard to do because music is the language of the soul....... Just wanted to be in the hearts of my fans for long. Well i think people love my work and  that's the biggest achievements for me.

Biography (Tausif Ali Khan)

Tausif Ali was born on 16th October. He belongs to the oldest school of music, namely Gwalior Gharana. The Gharana which produced legends like Mian taan sen, Baba Banne khan, Pyare khan, Ustad Umeed ali khan, Ustad Ghulam rasool khan, Ustad Manzoor ali khan, Ustad Hameed Ali khan and, the taan sen of 21st century, Ustad Fateh ali khan (gwalior).

Tausif himself is the ninth generation in an un-broken lineage of world renowned vocalists. He started learning the art of singing from his uncle the illustrious Ustad Fateh Ali khan(Gwalior) from a very young age and started giving performances with the big names like Abida Parveen and Ustad Fateh Ali khan(Gwalior) himself. He also had an honour to render a performance before Malka-e-taranum Noor jahan in a private gathering when he was only seven.

Tausif Ali has a wide experience of great stages at a very young age. He has a very good control over his wide ranged voice. He basically is a Classical-based singer and renders khyal, thumri, kafi, folk and ghazals by putting his idiosyncratic touch in them which gives them a unique flavour. He also renders the musical genres which are in rage these days with equal ease.

Presently, he is working on his debut album in which he has used his experience of Classical music. He has fused it with different genres like rock, pop, techno, jazz etc to suite the taste of a modern listener. His debut album will be show-cased in the market by 2012. In which he has chosen a few things from the soil of our heredity but with a difference and some novel experiments.
